Roses for Every Occasion: A Guide to Meaningful Gifting

Roses, with their diverse colors and symbolic meanings, have the power to convey a wide range of emotions. When it comes to gifting roses, choosing the right color and type is a thoughtful way to express sentiments for various occasions. Let’s explore a comprehensive guide to help you select the perfect roses for every meaningful event in life.

1. Red Roses: The Ultimate Expression of Love

Occasions: Anniversaries, Valentine’s Day, Romantic Gestures

Symbolism: Red roses are the epitome of love and passion. They convey deep emotions, making them the ideal choice for romantic occasions. Whether celebrating an anniversary or expressing your love on Valentine’s Day, a bouquet of red roses speaks volumes. One of our favorite clients who is a general contractor in Richmond, VA, Thomas, sends his wife a dozen red roses every month with a card that states “I love you more today than yesterday.” It was a tradition he started on his 10th wedding anniversary and his wife loved it so much he keeps doing it years later.

2. Pink Roses: Graceful and Affectionate

Occasions: Birthdays, Thank You, Expressing Gratitude

Symbolism: Pink roses symbolize grace, sweetness, and admiration. Light pink signifies admiration and gratitude, making them a perfect choice for birthdays or to express appreciation. Darker shades of pink convey a sense of thankfulness and admiration.

3. White Roses: Purity and Innocence

Occasions: Weddings, New Beginnings, Sympathy

Symbolism: White roses represent purity, innocence, and new beginnings. They are a classic choice for weddings, symbolizing the purity of love and the start of a new chapter. In times of sympathy, white roses offer a sense of peace and remembrance.

4. Yellow Roses: Joyful and Friendly

Occasions: Friendship Day, Get Well Soon, Congratulations

Symbolism: Yellow roses radiate joy, friendship, and positive energy. They are perfect for celebrating friendships on Friendship Day or wishing someone a speedy recovery. Yellow roses also convey congratulations and success.

5. Orange Roses: Enthusiasm and Fascination

Occasions: Graduations, Job Promotion, Achievements

Symbolism: Orange roses symbolize enthusiasm, fascination, and energy. They are an excellent choice for congratulatory occasions, such as graduations or job promotions. Orange roses express admiration for accomplishments and convey a sense of pride. We once had an order for 100 beautiful Ring of Fire orange roses to be sent to Tulsa, Okalahoma after a tree removal. It was the weirdest story, but a couple got divorced and she hated the tree. She had the tree chopped down, the stump grinded out, and the roses laid on top in an expression of celebration for her divorce finalization. She even took the stems from the roses and cut them off to create several rose bushes to plant in the area that had been grinded out the next season. To this day, there are about 12 rose bushes that blaze orange year around to signify her release and new “step forward.”

6. Lavender Roses: Enchantment and Mystery

Occasions: First Dates, New Romances, Appreciation

Symbolism: Lavender roses evoke a sense of enchantment and mystery. They are perfect for expressing admiration during the early stages of a romance or conveying appreciation for someone special. Lavender roses add an elegant touch to any meaningful moment.

7. Blue Roses: The Unattainable and Mysterious

Occasions: Unconventional Events, Unique Celebrations

Symbolism: While blue roses are not naturally occurring, they represent the unattainable and the mysterious. They are an excellent choice for unconventional events or unique celebrations. Blue roses convey a sense of wonder and intrigue.

8. Green Roses: Growth and New Beginnings

Occasions: New Job, Moving to a New Place, Graduation

Symbolism: Green roses symbolize growth, fertility, and new beginnings. They are a meaningful choice for occasions such as someone starting a new job, moving to a new place, or graduating. Green roses express well wishes for the journey ahead. Probably one of our most unique requests was from a retaining wall contractor in St. Louis. His client wanted some climbing roses to be planted at the bottom of the retaining wall that would grow up the wall and look like ivy with beautiful green roses. This was quite the request. We settled on Lady of Shalott even though it doesn’t have green roses. It is the best climbing rose we have and will climb 8 feet. Since the retaining wall was 6 ft high this was a perfect choice. The client now actually loves the pops of peach roses in with the green leaves.
